Freiwald Art Pottery

Richard A. and Andrea M. Freiwald of Freiwald Art Pottery create the highest quality one of a kind art works. The art pottery pieces are hand thrown on the potter’s wheel in a traditional fashion. All of the carving, incising, modeling and glazing is hand done and represents the continuation of great traditions in art and design. The glazes are some of the most unique in the business. Crystalline, crater, matte, frac, flambé, iridized and gloss glazes are vocabulary on the surface of porcelain and stoneware. These artworks are unique and every attempt is made to create the finest art which is well designed and meticulously crafted.


Richard holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Mason Gross School for the Arts at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Andrea holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from The Pratt Institute of Art and Design in New York and has studied at the Universita Internationale Del Arte, and the Scuola Grafica in Venice, Italy. Richard was a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts and the Council for Basic Education grant, The Geraldine R. Dodge foundation award, the Cape Branch Johnson Family Foundation Studio Dedication, the Herbert Hahn award, and the E. Murray Todd Chair. Their works have been exhibited in museums, galleries, art invitationals, and are in collections around the world.
